Fontys supports and motivates educational support and teaching staff in their (further) development into learning, collaborative professionals based on the principles of a learning organisation. The further elaboration of this vision on learning and development for staff can be found at here.
Fontys ICT has set out its focus for staff development for the coming years in a staff development plan. This ties in with the Fontys professionalisation plan which, in addition to vision and responsibilities, also addresses facilitation.
In line with Fontys policy, every employee is allocated a number of professional development hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO), supplemented by an equal number of hours for professional development arising from strategic programmes within Fontys. These hours have been incorporated within Fontys ICT and are visible in the gross-net calculation of hours in the deployment system.
For additional, individual development, a Fontys ICT employee may claim extra hours for the coming semester. The employee should discuss this with their Cluster Manager (CM). Upon approval by your Cluster Manager, you will be allocated 20 or 40 hours of additional professional development time. A limited number of professional development hours are available.
To apply for these extra professional development hours, there is a ‘Professional Development [HOURS]’ category in the Fontys ICT procurement system. Please note that there is also a ‘Professional Development’ category; this relates to costs.
In many cases, Fontys ICT reimburses the costs of a course, in line with Fontys policy. These costs include: registration fees, books, licences, materials, travel and accommodation costs. As Fontys University of Applied Sciences is liable for VAT, for courses that are not exempt from VAT the costs must be calculated inclusive of VAT. For all professional development requests, a procurement request must be submitted before an employee can enrol on the relevant course. Furthermore, for courses costing over €2,000, a study agreement must be drawn up.
During the development review, the employee discusses the progress of their studies. If progress is normal to good, the support will continue. If there are circumstances that could cause the studies to stagnate and/or prevent goals from being achieved, the lecturer is expected to report this as soon as possible so that any additional arrangements can be made. Once the course has been completed, the employee adds their diploma to their training file in HR2Day.
