Research Data Management

Summary
This page provides information about Research Data Management (RDM), the processes within Fontys that have been set up for it, which tools are available and what you can expect from the support in the field of RDM.

Introduction

The research we do within Fontys generates a lot of data. But how do you manage them? How do you deal with the storage of data during and after a study and with security and privacy? Good management helps to make the data available in a safe and sustainable way for reuse, verification and archiving.

What is Research Data Management

Research Data Management (RDM) refers to the process of managing and organising research data throughout the research lifecycle. It includes the collection, storage, processing sharing and preserving research data (Digital Competence Centre Applied Research, 2024, p. 3).

“The goal of RDM is to make managing data in your research as easy, secure, and efficient as possible. Proper planning is the most important first step here. This will also help you comply with, for example, applicable legislation and the requirements of the grantor’ (Hanze University of applied sciences, 2024).

The overview below provides in a nutshell the information that can be helpful to orientate you when preparing for a research project.
