The Fontys ICT AI Manifesto

Introduction – the relationship between Fontys ICT and AI

This manifesto describes how Fontys ICT, as an education and knowledge institution, relates to the impact and use of AI. It defines our principles for navigating the AI landscape in education. It is a living document that grows with the technology and our experience.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming how we learn, create and collaborate. This technological revolution brings unprecedented opportunities, but also complex challenges. From algorithmic bias to questions of academic integrity, the impact extends beyond technical applications.

Our ICT study programme is at the heart of this transformation. Our students will be working in a world where AI is ubiquitous. Our task is to prepare them for this: not by avoiding AI or blindly embracing it, but by charting a thoughtful, ethical and transparent course.

Core principles

  • Learning to work with AI: Our education prepares you for a career in which AI is a daily reality, by continuously learning to work with the current possibilities and applications of AI in an effective and productive way.
  • AI as a learning partner: AI is not a replacement or a threat, but a collaborative actor in learning. We use AI to enhance creativity, increase understanding and expand educational opportunities. [4, 5, 9]
  • Transparency as a Foundation: Clear and honest disclosure of AI use is the cornerstone of academic integrity. We disclose AI collaboration openly and specifically. [2, 4]
  • Critical Thinking as a Priority: We adopt a curious, critically inquiring attitude towards information sources, including AI output. We develop the ability to evaluate, question and verify. [2, 4, 8]
  • Ethical Innovation as Standard: We explore the possibilities of AI with respect for clear boundaries; innovation must serve educational goals and respect privacy, intellectual property and human dignity. [2, 4, 10]
