Communications tools

Summary
Within Fontys and FHICT, there are many communication tools. They can be used for internal and/or external use. This page gives an overview of the communication tools that are used within FHICT and describes the function per tool.

For an overview of the communication channels at FHICT, look at the page: communication channels

Introduction

Within Fontys and FHICT, there are many communication tools. They can be used for internal and/or external use. In case of external use, it is important that these products comply with the Fontys house style rules. Read on for general information about the Fontys house style. As of September 2017, the house style rules will be changed in detail. Within our institute, FHICT, we have also made agreements for the use of corporate identity for external and internal use. If you want to know the latest state of affairs, please contact the M&C team.

The following sections describe the FHICT's means of communication in more detail.

Advertisements

Characteristics and principles of the advertising line:

  • Advertisements comply with the Fontys house style (font, logo, fin, use of colour)
  • Advertisements are in 'Think Bigger' style
  • Advertising texts are compact, easy to scan by reader
  • Magenta is the signal colour in ads for full-time; Blue is the signal colour for professional market advertisements and purple the signal colour for business market.
  • All advertisements are clearly recognisable as Fontys advertisements

At Fontys we have the following 3 types of advertisements:

  1. These advertisements are aimed at a (joint) recruitment and/or information activity.
  2. Product advertisements \\This refers to advertisements from institutes or educational institutions. For example, an announcement of an information evening for a particular study programme.
  3. As an employer, Fontys places advertisements to recruit employees. Coordination around this type of advertisements is in the hands of the P&O service.

The process of advertisement placement (from purchasing to layout) is supported by Team M&C of FHICT, for advice and guidance, when it comes to placing advertisements. For more information and examples, see: Fontysportal Advertisements

Banners (digital advertisement)

In the digital world, it is impossible to imagine the world without commercial banners. Reaching the target group is done through bannering in a targeted and effective way (measurements). Application of the house style is partly dependent on size and technical possibilities. For more information and examples, see: Fontysportal Banners . Team M&C can advise and guide you when it comes to digital banner placements.

Brochures, fact sheets, flyers

Fontys' policy is to publish as few printed brochures as possible. More and more potentials are orienting themselves through websites on possible (follow-up) studies. This is why there are so-called fact sheets, which contain the most essential information about the study programmes. These are accessible via the GX website (fontys.nl). In principle, each study programme within FHICT has its own fact sheet:

Fact sheets can be printed by interested parties via the website. Fact sheets can also be ordered by team M&C as a printed copy for distribution during open days, information and events. Team M&C advises on design, text, layout of fact sheets and flyers.

BRON Independent Fontys News

Independent news within Fontys, with a journalistic background and opinion, can be found on the fontys website: http://bron.fontys.nl. Do you have interesting news, a great event, or students who have developed something beautiful and you want a journalistic article on BRON? Please contact: bron@fontys.nl.

Dean's Newsletter MBO or VO

A digital dean's newsletter is regularly published with Fontys' current affairs, relevant to the supply field. In the spring and autumn the Fontysinfo will be published with background articles on developments at Fontys. If you would like to receive the Dean's Newsletter, please send us a message: decanennieuws@fontys.nl. Do you have any interesting news that might be of interest to deans in the supply field? Then send your message to Team M&C. They will take care of the placement of your article in the next edition.

Digital newsletter, E-News

This is a newsletter that can be sent to the target group by e-mail. An example is the newsletter to deans MBO and/or VO. In this way, newsletters can also be sent out to, for example, internship or graduation companies and our Partners in Education.

Characteristics of an e-newsletter are:

  • Formatting in basic templates of E-Newsmanager: You can do it yourself.
  • Column arrangement pattern: different options depending on preferred text layout
  • Font Arial

The M&C team can advise and guide you in drawing up and sending out e-newsletters.

Digital guides

Target group: various different target groups.
The FHICT team responsible for the management/maintenance of the guides is indicated below for each guide.

HBO-ICT Survival Guide

The purpose of this guide is to inform all 1st year students about the study programme and the structure of the HBO-ICT study programme and the choices they have to make in the first year. The Survival Guide Fontys HBO-ICT can be found on http://survivalgidsfontysict.nl and can also be viewed by external target groups. Maintenance and management is the responsibility of Team M&C.

HBO-ICT Digital Selection Guide

FHICT has a Selection guide for students. The purpose of this guide is to inform all students in semester 2 and 3 about the choice of a specialisation from the second year of study onwards. Students from semesters 5 and 6 will also find information here about the choice of a minor in the fourth year. The selection guide is also accessible to external target groups. Maintenance and management is the responsibility of Team M&C.

Diploma folders

In A4 format, there are diploma folders with a window. These have been developed in consultation with the Student Desk and can be ordered via team M&C.

Email signature

Your signature on e-mails should be in accordance with the house style rules agreed upon in the FHICT. In mid-September 2017, the M&C team will work this out in more detail, due to minor changes in house style rules. You can read how to set this up in your mail via the manual.

Flashlight cards

In the case of external information for the full-time HBO-ICT course and in the case of external information on behalf of the Fontys technical courses, we give out so-called “flashlight cards” to the potentials. These are small credit card size cards with a light in them. There is a mention on it to our information website. If potentials then look for more information about our study programme(s) after the information session has ended, they can find that information on our website. There are flashlight cards indicating our short url: http://fontys.nl/hbo-ict (full-time HBO-ICT study programme) and for the collection page of Fontys technical study programmes: http://fontys.nl/techniek If you need a number of flashlight cards, you can request them via Team M&C.

Hodex

This is a national public database. Fontys keeps its own fontys.nl and fontys.edu website constantly up to date and that is linked to the Hodex-database. External study programme websites within the Netherlands use the Hodex information to fill their websites. Examples of such websites are hbobachelors.nl en studiekeuze123.nl. Fontys' policy is to keep its own websites fontys.nl and fontys.edu up-to-date.

Media training

As a professor or professional in your field, would you like to appear more often in the media as an expert? Would you like to learn how to explain developments in your field to a wide audience? Or do you, as a manager, want to be better able to hold your own in your contacts with the press? Team M&C will be happy to advise you on a tailor-made training course. We maintain contacts with both internal and external partners who can teach you the tricks of the trade. In addition, we will be happy to guide you through your contact with the press.

Newsportal Fontys-wide

Would you like to share news, activities and events with your colleagues at other Fontys institutes and services? You can do that via FontysNieuws. This news is shown on all FontysConnect home pages of students and staff members. News can be shared by institutions and services themselves via Newsroom. Team M&C can post messages.

Study programme database

Within Fontys, the basic characteristics of the regular study programmes (bachelors, ad's, preliminary programmes and master's programmes) are recorded in the Fontys presentation database (study programme database). These database data, including all data from information activities, are not only used for the publication of the study programmes on Fontys.nl and Fontys.edu, but also for Hodex. The basic data of the Fontys study programme presentation database can be found here: https://www.fontys.nl/portal/opleidingen.regulier.aspx. Do you want to make a change or addition to this database? Don't change anything yourself. This database is linked to Hodex. Any changes made here will affect our own GX website, Hodex and many external databases! Please contact Team M&C for more information.

Press releases / free publicity

From its Marketing and Communication Department, Fontys maintains intensive contacts with regional and national media. Team M&C has access to the so-called Press List. There they can post messages, which can then be brought to the attention of the editors of various media. Do you want to bring your project, a new development within your institute or a great performance of a student to the attention of for example radio and television programmes, newspapers, websites or magazines? Please contact Team M&C. They can advise and guide you in your contacts with the media.

From prices to events: All topics that have been put in the spotlight by means of Fontys News, the Update (newsletter for employees) or the social media channels of FHICT will be discussed. The portfolio gives an extensive overview of all the beautiful things we have achieved together in text and image (photo and video). The digital portfolio can be consulted in both English and Dutch.
