====== Codes for the provision of information ====== > **Summary** > //This page lists all codes used by Fontys ICT within the various information systems. The codes are composed of abbreviations. // =====1. Background ===== Abbreviations and codes are used to give various objects in the Fontys ICT information system unambiguous names. This page is a concrete elaboration of the naming convention Fontys ICT and based on the abbreviations. There is a complete overview of abbreviations and codes. =====2. Class codes ===== Within Fontys ICT, class codes are used in the timetable application Xedule, the Students Tracking System (SVS), the Fontys-wide enrolment and study progress system Progress.net and in the digital learning environment Canvas. The ownership of the class codes is invested in the functional management of SVS. The source of the class codes for the information systems is therefore SVS. ====2.1 Construction ==== A class code consists of the following structure and consists of a maximum of eight positions: - the prefix is the abbreviation of the __study programme variant__. An exception is the class codes Full-Time Bachelor study programme, which has no prefix. Followed by a dash (-); - abbreviation __ educational pathway__ or combination of profiles (minimum 1, maximum 3 positions); - __semester number__ (2 to 8), followed by a dash (-). In the first semester, we do not use a numerical semester indication, but P as an educational pathway. For semester 6 and 7, we also do not use a numerical semester indicator, but A for Advanced and M for minor. - __demand__ based, __course__ based, __research__based or __open learning__; - __Serial number__of the class from number 1 (01 if many classes are involved); - location Tilburg (T) and Customisation (Maatwerk) (M) as suffix. If more suffixes apply, the T-suffix will always be the last. >**Examples** > Minor class XR Design = **XR-M-RB01** > Class ICT & Media Design in Tilburg semester 3 = **M3-DB01T** > AD business semester 2 = **A-B2-01** > Education for Professionals first semester first class = **O-P01** > First semester demand based = **P-DB01** > First semester course based = **P-CB01** A student who does not actively participate in education is given a parking class: code contains abbreviation ‘PAR’. Due to advising in semester 1 and 2, these students will receive a double class: regular class and parking class. ===== 3. Units of study codes===== Codes for units of study are used within Fontys ICT in the timetable application Xedule, the Student Tracking System (SVS), and in the Canvas digital learning environment. ====3.1 Structure ==== The code for the unit of study is structured as follows: - The prefix is the abbreviation for the __study programme variant__. An exception is the class code Full-time Bachelor, which has no prefix. Followed by a dash (-); - abbreviation __educational pathway__ or combination of profiles (minimum 1, maximum 3 positions); - __semester number__ (2 to 8); in the first semester we do not use a numerical semester designation, but P as the educational pathway. For semester 6 and 7, we also do not use a numerical semester indicator, but A for Advanced and M for minor; - __demand__ based, __course__ based, __research__based or __open learning__. Followed by a dash; - Tilburg location (T) as suffix. ====3.2 Exceptions ==== For specialisations we often work with an A or B part that students can follow in both semester 3 and 4. The English-language variant of the programme offers subcourses in different semesters. In both cases, the use of semester figures is not necessary. >**Examples** > Mathematics 1 ICT & business in English = **MATH1** > Education for Professionals first semester Information systems = **IS1** =====4. (Course) components codes ===== Course codes are the smallest possible codes for parts of the semester and main subjects that are unique within Fontys ICT. ====4.1 Construction ==== Components (previously sub-courses) are constructed in the CDB as follows (maximum 7 positions): - __abbreviation course__ (min. 2 and max. 4 positions, only capital letters); - __revision number__ (1 position A to Z) only if applicable. >**Examples** > Mathematics 1 English ICT & Business = **MATH1** > Education for Professionals (OvP) first semester Information Systems = **IS1** ===== 5. Course codes for education in Canvas ===== Within Fontys ICT's Learning Management System, Canvas, various courses are created and published to support the learning process, provide feedback, and assess students. Courses are usually linked to subcourses/components, but sometimes also to a research group or ambition theme. ==== 5.1 Construction ==== A course code for Canvas is built with the following structure: - abbreviation __ study programme variant__ followed by hyphen (with the exception of Full-time Bachelor, then nothing); - abbreviation __ educational pathway__; - __semester number__ (2 to 8); - abbreviation for Course Based (CB), Demand Based (DB), Research Based (RB) or Open Learning (OL) followed by a dash; - __General course code__ (see above) followed by a dash; - If it concerns a master course, the code ends with MC; if it concerns a production course, the code ends with the serial number of the class. >**Examples master courses** > Component Machine Learning in semester 7 for Applied Data Science = **AI-A-RB-ML-MC** > Education for Professionals first semester Information systems 1 = **O-P-IS-MC** > First semester Course Based Application Development Advanced = **P-CB-ADA-MC** >**Examples of the production course** > Education for Professionals (OvP) first semester Information Systems 1 for class 2 = **O-P-IS02** ==== 5.2 Exception ==== **Exception for multiple classes**\\ If a production course is used for multiple classes, the suffix is -> CMK (Multiple Class Courses). ==== 5.3 Study components in Canvas ==== Some subcourses are subdivided into study components. These study components may have their own Canvas course. **Structure of naming** - study programme variants; - abbreviation educational pathways; - semester number followed by a dash; - abbreviation teaching methods followed by a dash; - abbreviation of course unit followed by a dash; - abbreviation class code. >**Examples of study components in Canvas** > B - BDK3 - Req - B31 > B - BIN4 - AST - B42 ===== 6. Course codes in Progress & Xedule ===== In Progress, codes always start with the institute number (29). The unit of study (the main subject of the semester for which ECs are paid) also includes the abbreviation of the Program Variant. The TER contains the names of the units of study. ==== 6.1 Construction of subcourses ==== The code consists of a maximum of 10 positions. - __Institute number__ (29); - __course code general__. >**Example parts** > Associate degree Service Management and Threats in semester 2 = **29SMTH2** ==== 6.2 Unit of study (main subject) ==== The code consists of a maximum of 10 positions. - __Institute number__ (29); (except Xedule) - abbreviation __study programme variant__ (1 position); - __General __subject code (max. 7 positions). >**Examples Unit of study ** > Unit of study T profile, semester 3 Connected event driven systems = **29VPT3B** > Internship Digital Publishing = **29VSTDP** ===== 7. Package codes in Progress ===== Progress works with packages. Packages contain several units of study and are currently grouped by phase. ==== 7.1 Construction ==== - __Institute number__ 29; - abbreviation __study programme variant__ (1 position); - abbreviation __fase__ (1 position); - abbreviation __educational route__ (minimum 1 maximum 2 positions); - __calendar year__ in which the package for the TER has been added or changed (2 positions). >**Examples** > Full-time propaedeutic phase ICT & Business, TER 2016-2017 = **29VPB16** ===== 8. Other course codes Canvas ===== Within the Learning Management System of Fontys ICT, Canvas, various courses are made on behalf of the learning process, giving feedback and assessing students. Courses are generally linked to subcourses/components, but sometimes also to a research group or ambition theme. ==== 8.1 Course codes for skills==== === 8.1.1 General === Some courses are not specifically linked to a educational route, nor is the educational material linked to an TER course code. Then the prefix ALG replaces the educational route followed by the abbreviation. **Structure of naming ALG** - __ALG__ followed by a dash; - __name__ which consists of one word or abbreviation. >**Examples** >ALG "AUTI" MC >ALG "TAAL" MC >AlG "DELTA The abbreviation is used for specific organisational units. For example, in the case of research groups, the prefix LECT. === 8.1.2 Student Plus and Professional Development === Codes specifically for Student Plus and/or Professional Development start with SP-PO. **Structure of SP-PO naming** - __SP-PO__ followed by a dash; - __name__ which consists of one word or abbreviation. >**Examples of courses Student Plus - Professional Development** > SP-PO-ASSERT-MC > SP-PO-CREAD-MC ==== 8.2 Course codes outside of education Canvas ==== === 8.2.1 Terms === Terms are periods (based on the semesters) in which the production courses for regular education take place. These terms determine when a course becomes available, or is archived. **Structure of naming Terms** - __schoolyear__ in 4 digits (school year 2022-2023 will be 2223); - in spring semester the suffix is __VJ__, in autumn __NJ__. >**Example Terms** > Spring semester school year 2022-2023 = **2223VJ** === 8.2.2. Performance indicators === The performance indicators (PI's) follow the same hierarchical structure as the routes. Some performance indicators are the same for all our students (General), but most of them are linked to a route. PI's (and the associated rubrics) are arranged in the 3 phases of bachelor's education. **Structure of naming PI** - __competence name__ by a dash; - __architecture layer__ letter HBO-I, (N.B. PO line has no architectural layers); - __PI level__; - predecessor, __PI sequential number__. >**Example PI** > Designing-S2.1 > Learning skills-2.1 === 8.2.3 Assessment files === In Canvas assessment files have been developed. **Structure of naming Assessment file** - __Assessment file__ followed by a dash; - abbreviation __educational pathway__; - __semester number__. >**Examples of assessment files** > Assessment file - DP4 > Assessment file - GD3 **Exception for Part-Time/Education for Professionals**\\ In the part-time programme, we work on pathways instead of semesters. As a result, one assessment file course is created for each main subject. At Education for Professionals, there is one Project Leader Programme Implemantation (PLOU) for each main subject. For this reason, work is also being done in a single assessment file course. >**Examples of exceptions to assessment files** > Assessment file - OVPS > Assessment file - DTS === 8.2.4 Semester coach courses === In some profiles there are courses for semester coaching. **Structure of the name of the semester coach courses** - abbreviation __ educational pathway__ followed by a dash; - __SEM__ + __semester number__. === 8.2.5 Personal course === Some students and lecturers have a personal course. **Structure of nomenclature Personal course** - __PERS__ followed by a dash; - __PCN number__. >**Example personal course** > PERS-123456
