Summary
Description of the purpose, tasks and responsibilities of the Professor.
Purpose
The purpose of the role of Professor is to firmly establish the position of practice-based research in the knowledge chain in a fruitful and broadly supported collaboration between applied research, education and the work field. Within Fontys ICT the Professor therefore contributes to a rich, meaningful learning environment that also offers employees good development opportunities. The professor is also mainly responsible for the realisation of the second statutory task of higher professional education (HBO), applied research.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Develop the research programme with coherent, longer-term research lines that contribute to meaningful learning environments and to social issues;
- This also contributes to the realisation of relevant research agendas within Fontys, regionally, nationally and at a European level;
- To ensure that Fontys ICT staff are kept informed of developments in the field of the research programme;
- In consultation with education, ensuring that research projects are carried out in and with education;
- Ensuring the assurance and transfer of the results of research projects in education;
- Ensuring relevant networks for research purposes;
- Ensuring additional research funding, also by initiating and participating in research applications;
- Managing research teams within and outside Fontys ICT for the realisation of research projects;
- Provide professionalisation opportunities for lecturers in the area of research and innovation of the discipline;
- Representing Fontys ICT externally in the field of research and innovation;
- Ensuring the quality of research in the context of quality assurance;
- Ensure dissemination of research through professional and popular channels;
- Participate in the Research Consultation.
Powers
The professor determines the research agenda of the research groups. This agenda is part of the research program of Fontys ICT that is prepared by the Research Consultation (RO). The professors determine the staffing of the research projects. The Fontys ICT team of professors, organised in the Research Consultation, has the substantive responsibility over all applied research and therefore determines, which research commitments are undertaken by Fontys ICT.

- With the Programme Manager (CE) on the connection between research lines and curriculum;
- With the Project Leader Programme Implementation (PLOU) on the implementation of research in education, content, quality assurance and transfer of results;
- With project leaders/coordinators of research on the execution of research and new research applications;
- With the Process Owners (HR, Planning & Control, Information Management) about financial and personnel deployment;
- With the Fontys ICT (Extended) Leadershipteam on tactical policy making and implementation within Fontys ICT.

- With other researchers from other Fontys institutes;
- With (potential) research partners from other knowledge institutions or from the work field.
