Introduction

At all Fontys ICT locations, the Student Desk (SD) supports the administrative registration of the various phases of the study career of all Fontys ICT students and course participants. In this Policy Wiki you will also find the contact details of the Student Desk. More information about the SD teams can be found on the Fontys ICT portal, where you will also find the actual division of tasks within the Student Desk.

Application and enrolment

Before 1 September, all new (full-time) students must have applied via Studielink. After that, application via Studielink is no longer possible. Before enrolment is final, all enrolment documents must be in order: diploma prior education, tuition fee payment, etc.
For the February intake, they must have submitted an application in Studielink before 1 February. The process otherwise remains the same.
All incumbent students who have not yet graduated before 1 September must arrange for their re-registration in Studielink themselves.

Intakes & First semester

Students applying for the HBO-ICT study programme receive a welcome e-mail and a link to a questionnaire (Study choice check). The student completes this questionnaire and then receives an invitation for an intake interview. This is followed by a recommendation. If the student decides to come and study with us, he will start in the First Semester, during which the student will be introduced to Fontys ICT's 5 profiles: ICT & Business, ICT & Media Design, ICT & Software Engineering and ICT & Technology and ICT & Infrastructure. The intake process is explained here in more detail.

Class lists

The actual class lists can be found for students and employees on the Student Square of the Fontys ICT portal.

Combo choice and Profile choice

Students from the first semester make a choice during the first semester, to go into further depth in 1 (or 2) of the profiles. Later in the study programme, they make a number of further choices:

  • profile choice semester 2;
  • a specialisation for semester 4;
  • and a minor, etc.

The students make their choices by signing in Progress. These are read in StudentVolg.

Profile choice and further

At the end of the first semester, students choose 1 of the 5 profiles: ICT & Business, ICT & Media Design, ICT & Software Engineering, ICT & Technology and ICT & Infrastructure or the student chooses Open Learning. At the end of semester 3, the student chooses either a specialisation or Open Learning.
For each profile, specialisation, minor, etc., the Student Desk takes care of a large number of administrative tasks, including registering classes, processing study results and preparing assessor meetings.

Internship

Once a student has permission for internship, they start looking for an internship. Students can search for an internship assignment through the study programme's database or search independently for a company and a suitable assignment. The administration and organisation around internship companies and assignments, internship preparation, supervision, completion and assessment lies with the Student Desk.

Minors

Students may take one free minor in semester 6 or in semester 7. If they follow a free minor in semester 6, they must follow a specialisation either Profile or Open Learning in semester 7. If they follow a free minor in semester 7, they have to follow either a profile or Specialisation or Open Learning in semester 6. By a free minor we mean a programme minor, Fontys minor, external minor or foreign minor. Some of these minors are only offered once a year. Fontys ICT students who take a minor outside Fontys ICT and pass it will receive a minor certificate. The same applies to 'external' students taking a minor at Fontys ICT.

Graduation

When a student has completed the entire study programme, the Student Desk still plays an important role in graduation and obtaining the certificate.
All administration and organisation around companies and assignments such as preparation, supervision, submission of theses, assessment and graduation sessions lie with the Student Desk.

Certificates

Once our students have graduated, certificates and diploma supplements are created in Progress. These documents are archived in content manager. Graduates additionally receive an appendix Competence Profiling. For our graduates, we organise graduation ceremonies twice a year:

  • in March and July (or september) major awards: BSc VT (profile/specialisation), AD VT, BSc OvP & AD; MSc.

Graduates sign to receive their certificates.

Partners in Education

The Student Desk hereby provides administrative support for our collaboration with Partners in Education. , organises the annual Fontys ICT Careerday, coordinates the allocation of external experts for graduation and organises meetings for company supervisors for internships.

Packages in Progress

The TER (Teaching and Examination Regulations) sets out the basis of our curriculum and is the guideline for the diploma and diploma supplement. This is closely linked to the set-up of our student progress administration system Progress, where credits and corresponding (partial) results are registered.

Fontys ICT International

Administrative support for our internationalisation activities is also provided by the Student Desk. We use the Mobility Online programme for this purpose. Students who want to do a minor, internship or graduation abroad must register there.
