ICT & Software Engineering Accelerated

Summary
This page describes the 3-year track ICT & Software Engineering Accelerated that Fontys ICT offers to students with a pre-university or equivalent education.

ICT & Software Engineering Accelerated

The Higher Education and Scientific Research Act (WHW) offers the possibility to provide students with a pre-university education diploma a three-year track for a bachelor's degree. Within Fontys ICT this opportunity is offered to Software Engineering students through a modified program whereby the student can obtain 240EC in 3 years time. The programme for this is as shown in Figure 1:

The units of study S2, S3, S6 and S8 of 30 EC are exactly the same as in the regular full-time study programme and are also taken in a regular class. Unit of study S5 (the internship) is shorter, but counts for 30EC (this group of students is expected to achieve an equivalent result more quickly).

S7 is a minor offered by the Technical University of Eindhoven and is equivalent to the pre-master which they usually only offer to students in possession of a full higher professional education diploma. This minor is much more mathematical in nature than any unit of study in the four-year bachelor's curriculum and requires separate preparation.

Pre-Assessment

To be admitted to the accelerated track, students need to have a pre-university education diploma and they need to pass the pre-assessment that is taken on the first day of the study programme. The pre-assessment is a replacement for the first semester which is mainly orientational in nature. Passing this pre-assessment will also result in a 30EC exemption for the first semester. This results in a reduction of the nominal study time of six months compared to the four-year bachelor.

Students who do not pass the pre-assessment or do not wish to do so, can also follow the regular first semester and then enter the second semester of this track. Their full nominal lead time is then 3.5 years.

AP-A, AP-B, AP-C en AP-D

The clusters of units of study AP-A, AP-B, AP-C and AP-D are mainly preparation for the much more mathematical educational programme of the pre-master (S7). These clusters comprise 8, 7, 8 and 7 EC respectively (total 30 EC). In terms of content, they replace the specialisation followed in the four-year program in semester 4. They are taken by the students in addition to the regular units of study and form another half year shortening of the nominal study time.
