Summary

In the fifth semester of the programme, bachelor students go on internships. The internship is, as it were, a master thesis within the study programme in which the student has to show that he can independently complete an assignment at HBO-i level 2 and is ready for the last 3 semesters. It is a preparation for graduation in semester eight and therefore follows the same procedure.

A student may only start an internship if he or she meets the advancement standards. Students who comply will be added to the internship course in week 5 of the semester prior to their internship semester. If they cannot go on an internship for a valid reason, permission is required from the competent examination chamber, to enrol in a different semester than the internship. All students must have an approved internship assignment by week 18 of the semester prior to their internship.

For the internship assignment, a student may choose from any HBO-ICT related internship of sufficient level and volume. The chances of successfully completing the assignment are greatest if the student chooses from:

1. an internship that corresponds largely to the profile chosen by the student.
2. an internship that corresponds largely to the specialisation chosen by the student.
3. a personolised internship, in which the student must indicate how the internship provides evidence of mastery of the HBO-i competencies at level 2.

In all cases, it is the student's own responsibility to find an internship placement that matches his or her choice. To support the student, Fontys ICT offers a database with suitable, available internship assignments (see the Fontys ICT Internship system).

For the students who start the internship from February 2023 onwards, it is no longer necessary to sign a (three-party) internship agreement. The Student Desk will send the internship provider our standard internship conditions, which also contain sufficient confidentiality provisions. The student can of course sign contracts with the company, but these are two-party agreements between the student and the company and do not have to be sent to Fontys ICT. In case the company still wants to have a confidentiality statement to be signed, Fontys ICT's Confidentiality Statement Internship should preferably be used.

If the student meets the advancement standard to go on an internship, he must find an assignment and start at the next starting moment.
Students may choose to temporarily interrupt their studies before starting internships. These students then temporarily deregister. For example, when they have not found a suitable internship position or assignment in time. Or when other obstacles prevent them from starting the internship. This is subject to specific procedures.

For the trainees who start their traineeship from February 2023 a new assessment form applies, adapted to the new learning outcomes and the new professional development (PO) skills.

The internship coordinators are Project Leader Programme Implementation (PLOU) of the internship semesters. The supervision and assessment of the internship is done by examiners that meet the requirements that have been formulated for this. Prior to the internship, the internship assignment will be assessed by at least two professional expert examiners and provided with feedback. In the case of internship guidance, a link is made between the student (and the assignment) and the internship supervisor on the basis of professional expertise.

Under the leadership of internship coordinators, at least three intervision sessions with all examiners are organised during each semester. Interpretations of objectives and standards are exchanged, sharpened and harmonised.
