Summary
The organisation and structure of participation is described at various levels within Fontys.

Within Fontys, employees and students (those involved) choose representatives from their midst for one of the participation councils within our organisation.

Because the representatives are involved in the decision-making process, meet regularly with the decision-makers: Participation follows control.

The Fontys organisation consists of two levels: the level of the institutes and the Fontys level (central). Each institute is managed by a director and provides study programmes. The Executive Board operates at Fontys level.

Each institute has a Institute Participation Council (IPC) attached to it. The IPC members have the managing director as their interlocutor. The members of an IPC follow the ins and outs of an institute and its study programme(s). They play a role in determining policy and monitor the institute's management. In concrete terms, this means that the members of the IPC are in agreement with, for example, the adoption or modification of the internal organisation, the policy of the study programme, health and safety issues and the TER (Teaching and Examination Regulations). In addition, the IPC can advise the managing director at any time, on request or otherwise, on the course of events within the institute. The managing director should take this advice seriously, and can't just ignore it.

Fees (facilitation) for student members of the IPC
Administratively active students who are members of the IPC are entitled to a fee (facilitation) for each attended meeting. For each role (full member, chairperson of the student section, chairperson), this fee is laid down in the Regeling Medezeggenschapsraden en Opleidingscommissies Fontys (RMO) (article 14, paragraphs 4 and 5). The Central Participation Council (CPC) is the interlocutor of the members of the Executive Board. The CPC is the Fontys representative body that reviews the strategic and tactical policy of the Executive Board and thus represents the interests of the Fontys organisation and its students and staff. This is why students and staff work together in the council.

According to the law, every Higher Education study programme must have a Degree Programme Committee (DPC) (OC). If more than one programme fall under one institute, it may be decided to set up a Joint Degree Programme Committee (JDPC) (GOC). At Fontys ICT, a JDPC is set.

The members of the JDPC (lecturers and students, no support staff) follow the ins and outs of the study programme. The (J)DPC is a consultative body. This means that she does not have the right to consent, but she does have the right to give advice.
