Process permission graduation bachelor

Summary
Describes the process of granting permission for students to go to graduation in the bachelor's programme.

1. Introduction

The process for granting permission to graduation has 3 facets, which interact and require a smooth process.

  1. The lead time required for the student to find a graduation company and final assignment;
  2. The requirement that the student must have completed all educational activities -except graduation-, which can only be finally determined relatively late;
  3. Not burdening companies with applicants for final assignments that end up not coming.

2. Final assignment

For many students, the moment when it can be definitively determined whether all education -except graduation- has been completed is so close to the moment when graduation can actually be started that finding a final assignment without study delay is practically impracticable.

We therefore allow students to start earlier. Therefore, we allow students to start acquiring a final assignment earlier, estimating for themselves whether they will meet the requirements in due course. To avoid burdening companies with many applicants for graduation positions, which eventually have to be cancelled because the student unexpectedly cannot meet the requirements after all, an implicit provisional permission is given prior to the final one. All students who have completed 180 credits will be allowed to start preparations for graduation. Students should indicate when applying to a company that it is not yet final that they will actually be allowed to graduate and make it clear how likely it is that they can actually start at the agreed time.

3. Starting conditions

  1. All education has been completed (210 credits obtained);
  2. The student has an assignment approved by Fontys ICT and graduation company.

4. Preparation for graduation

The student may start preparing for graduation if he has obtained 180 credits and will obtain the remaining 30 credits in the current semester.

* Reference date: week 5 of each semester;

  • Extension if Semester 6 or Semester 7 is fully completed (180 credits obtained) and the last one (Semester 7 or Semester 6) is followed;
  • Intended start time:
    • Regular: The beginning of the semester following the last educational semester prior to graduation. In this case, the student has 15 weeks to seek and get an assignment approved.
    • Customised work: The beginning of the quarter following the quarter in which the customised work is completed. If the custom work can be completed in a quarter, the student has 5 weeks to search for an assignment and get it approved.

5. Final start graduation

  • Reference date: week 1 of each moment when graduation can be started;
  • Student may graduate if the starting conditions are met.
  • In case the student has taken an external minor, it may take longer for credits to be registered. In those cases, a second check is made in week 5.
