Graduation Master of Applied IT

Summary
Description of graduation from the master's degree programme at Fontys ICT .

Master's thesis

In the second semester of the master's degree programme, the student will graduate. The graduation is, as it were, the master's degree programme's master's thesis in which the student shows that he can independently complete an assignment at master level.

Conditions

A student may only start graduation once the first semester has been completed. For conditions, see the page process permission graduation master.

Starting moment

The student may look for a graduation position, if there is a real prospect of completing the first semester of the master's degree programme. The student may then seek an assignment and start at the next starting moment. It may happen that students choose, to temporarily suspend their studies, before starting graduation, for example if they have not found a suitable graduation place or assignment in time. These students should then temporarily deregister. This is subject to specific procedures.

Confidentiality

Sometimes the student wants to carry out an assignment where the organisation offering the assignment demands confidentiality. In that case, the student should already indicate this at the start of his/her graduation project. Fontys ICT has a policy on secrecy that must be followed for this purpose.

Submission of graduation portfolio

The graduation portfolio is submitted digitally in Canvas by the graduating student before the set deadline. Where the assessors deem it necessary, the portfolio or parts of it will be scanned for plagiarism (see: plagiarism-check tool). If plagiarism is found by the assessors, this is reported to the examination board. After the session, Student Desk (SD) stores the portfolio with the completed protocol in the student file in Content Manager.

Graduation session

Graduation is completed with the graduation session. If postponement of the graduation session or extension of graduation is necessary, a specific procedure must be followed.

Internship and graduation coordinators

The graduation coordinators are PLOU of the graduation semesters . The supervision and assessment of graduation is done by a collection of experienced examiners who meet the requirements formulated for this purpose and are appointed by the examination board. Prior to graduation, the final assignment is assessed and provided with feedback by at least two subject-matter expert examiners. For graduation supervision, a link is made between student, assignment and graduation supervisor based on subject-matter expertise.

Intervision and review

  • Under the guidance of graduation coordinators, five intervision sessions are organised with all examiners during each semester. Here, interpretations of goals and standards are exchanged, sharpened and harmonised.
  • With some regularity, a review (reassessment) of a selection of assessed works by other assessors takes place after a graduation period.
  • Examiners are exchanged with other universities of applied sciences as external experts at graduation sessions.

The actual overview of all graduation coordinators (select Role: “PLOU” and Study programmes “Master of Applied IT”), can be found on the Employee section of the Fontys ICT portal.
