First semester
Summary
The first semester is the first semester of the broad bachelor and Associate degree at Fontys ICT. This wiki page details some important things about the first semester .
Target
The main purpose of the first semester is to orientate on Fontys ICT's HBO-ICT study programme and the broad professional field of ICT. For students, orientation means: do you have a good idea of the study programme and the professional field and will you choose to pursue this programme? Is your first choice of bachelor or Associate degree still the best choice? For Fontys ICT, orientation means: are we confident that the student can successfully follow a study programme with us?
Orientation
The first semester (half year) of Fontys ICT is the first semester (half year) of Fontys ICT, the purpose of which is to orientate students to the study programmes HBO-ICT from Fontys ICT and the broad professional field of ICT. This means that at the end of the first semester students be able to answer the following questions for themselves: Do I have a good idea of the study programme and the professional field? Do I choose to continue with this study programme?
Lecturers guide students during the orientation and choice process regarding the continuation of their studies. Lecturers also indicate whether they are confident that the student can follow a successful study programme at Fontys ICT. Besides orientation, the first semester also focuses on (self)selection with respect to the continuation of the study. Based on this orientation, students then choose the ICT study programme that ultimately appeals most to them. Besides subject-related orientation, students learn to develop professionally . In the first semester, students therefore work on both substantive professional development and professional development (PO).
Structure of first semester
The first semester is conducted in two variants:
- Full-time
The learning outcomes under these different implementation variants are the same.
1. Full-time
The primary target group for this variant is Dutch and international students wishing to obtain an HBO-ICT bachelor or Associate degree diploma. The learning outcomes and assessment criteria are determined by the study programme. For the educational activities, students have choices, including making their own proposal. In the first eight weeks, students orient themselves individually on different topics through two projects. From week 9, they work on group projects where they gain knowledge and skills relevant to the topics of their choice.
2. Education for Professionals
The primary target group for the first semester Education for Professionals are professionals who want to take the next step in their development, and retrainers. The first semester Education for Professionals offers a broad orientation to all directions within HBO-ICT, and to the difference between the Bachelor's and Associate degree study programmes.
At Education for Professionals, we work according to Blended learning. Blended learning consists of learning activities of professionals aimed at constructing learning content (insight, knowledge, skills) in a systematic combination of face-to-face and online interactions between students, lecturers and learning resources that take place in various contexts, such as professional practice, university of applied sciences and at home.
The Education for Professionals first semester is divided into three periods. Two short individual challenges focus on the various HBO-ICT disciplines and allow students to deepen their knowledge at their own pace. In a third challenge, students work on a group assignment that gives practical substance to professional and technical skills through cooperation with various HBO-ICT disciplines.
