Graduation bachelor

Summary
Description of graduation from Fontys ICT's bachelor's degree programme.

Master thesis

In the last semester of the study programme, the student will graduate. Graduation is, as it were, the master thesis of the study programme in which the student has to show that he is able to complete an assignment on a HBO level independently.

Conditions

A student may only start graduating when all other units of study have been completed. Before being allowed to look for a graduation place, the student must have completed 180 credits and may assume that he will complete the remaining 30 credits during the current semester.

Starting moment

If the student has completed 180 credits and is likely to complete the remaining 30 credits in the current semester, he may seek an assignment and start at the next starting moment.
It may happen that students choose, to temporarily interrupt their studies, before starting graduation. These students then temporarily deregister. For example, when they have not found a suitable graduation place or assignment in time. Or when other obstacles prevent them from starting graduation. Specific procedures apply in this situation.

Confidentiality

Sometimes the student wants to perform an assignment where the company offering the assignment demands confidentiality. In that case, the student must indicate this at the start of his graduation project. Fontys ICT has a confidentiality that must be followed for this.

Graduation portfolio submission

The graduation portfolio is submitted digitally in Canvas by the graduating student before the set deadline. Where the assessors deem it necessary, the portfolio or parts of it are scanned for plagiarism (see: plagiarism-check tool). If plagiarism is found by the assessors, this is reported to the examination board. After the session, Student Desk (SD) stores the portfolio with the completed protocol in the student file in Content Manager.

Graduation session

The graduation is completed with the graduation session. If a postponement of the graduation session or an extension of the graduation process is necessary, a specific procedure will have to be followed.

Internship and graduation coordinators

The graduation coordinators are the Project Leaders Programme Implementation (PLOUs) of the graduation semesters. The supervision and assessment of the graduation is done by a group of experienced examiners who meet the requirements that have been formulated for this purpose and who have been appointed by the examination board. Prior to graduation, the thesis assignment will be assessed and provided with feedback by at least two expert examiners. In the case of graduation guidance, a link is made between the student (and the assignment) and the graduation supervisor on the basis of professional expertise.

Intervision and review

  • Under the guidance of graduation coordinators, five intervision sessions with all examiners are organized during each semester. Interpretations of objectives and standards are exchanged, tightened up and harmonised.
  • A review (re-evaluation) of a selection of assessed works by other assessors takes place on a regular basis at the end of the graduation period.
  • Examiners are exchanged with other colleges as external experts at graduation sessions.

The current overview of all graduation coordinators (select Role: “PLOU” and Studyphase: “S8”) can be found on the Medewerkersplein of the Fontys ICT portal.
