Customised education

Summary
This page describes the policy for customised education designed for students who need special attention and extra support during their studies. Explained are the reason, responsibilities, possible extra support and the procedure to be followed during the assessors' meeting. Finally, a brief working method is outlined for the Studycoach tool (as part of Canvas) to ensure guidance by semester coaches and transfer between semester coaches.

1. Reason

In the management decision Fontys ICT 2021 038 dated 01-04-2021, it was decided to drop the customisation advice in the OER of the new curriculum architecture (CA). This means that any student who failed a unit of study will have to take a restart of the unpassed unit of study.

Students will therefore need to be facilitated within the restart to receive as much tailor-made education as possible because:

  • There are and will continue to be students who need special attention and extra support to be successful in their education.
  • Individually adapted pathways with the corresponding coaching, close to the educational implementation, are needed

Within the course-based learning format, extra attention will be needed to live up to what is mentioned at point ii.

2. Responsibilities PLOU

In the CA and in Fontys ICT's organisational structure, the PLOU has additional responsibilities in this area:

  • Process assurance in such a way that the plan of approach for the individual, restarting student is examined in order to achieve the unit of study.
  • Within the deployment frameworks of the educational unit, ensure that sufficient time is available for tutors to provide tailored guidance.
  • Ensure that the implementation team is composed in such a way that there are enough teachers with the expertise to provide extra coaching to restarting students with specific coaching needs.

3. Support Student+

Student+ is the centre of expertise that can support students and teachers with customised guidance during regular restarts. In addition, there are teachers and educationists who can support customised guidance, for example by providing coaches or advice based on their experience from former customised student guidance.

4. Procedure Assessors meeting

The procedure for the assessors' meeting is described at this page.
